Autumn Equilibrium: Finding Balance Amidst Change

Easter time is almost upon us and it also is a time that marks the shifting of the seasons. According to Chinese Medicine five element theory, we are at the cusp of late summer, a time of harvest, abundance and reaping the rewards of our labour; and the beginning of autumn which is a time of transition. Autumn reminds us of the law of impermanence, the understanding that change is the only constant in life . Therefore, take time to express gratitude for cherished relationships, our health and the abundance that surrounds us in this moment.   It is also a time where Mother Nature demonstrates the act of letting go. Although this is not always an easy process, allowing ourselves to release old energy and to feel loss is a necessary part of life. It allows energy to flow and not stagnate so, ultimately we can make space for a new beginning.  This is the cycle of growth and life that we all experience.

Lately, I have been feeling a deep call to honour these cycles and to care for my inner world.

I also know many people in my own circle who are experiencing big life transitions such as moving home, retirement, relationship and health challenges at this present time.

The reason why I am writing from this perspective is to remind ourselves that we are not alone in moving through these challenges. Nor are we just physical beings going through the motions. We are intellectual, emotional and spiritual beings too, and therefore we need to tend to all aspects of our lives to maintain good health and fulfillment. This is why a holistic approach to well-being is so vital.

I’d like to share with you some of my favourite tips to maintain inner harmony:

  • Engage in a regular movement practice such as yoga, qi gong or tai chi to foster physical mental harmony

  • Practice deep breathing exercises throughout the day to cultivate a sense of calm and presence

  • Dedicate time to meditation or quiet reflection, allowing space for inner peace and clarity.

  • Immerse yourself in nature’s beauty by taking leisurely walds and appreciating the autumnal changes.

  • Adjust your diet to include warm, moist foods like soups and casseroles, to balance the quality of dryness characteristic of autumn.

  • Treat yourself to a rejuvenating massage session to ease muscular tension and promote the flow of vital energy throughout your body.

If you feel called to schedule a remedial massage appointment or if you have any questions about these ancient principles of well-being, please don't hesitate to reach out. I'm here to provide a safe and supportive space for you to rest and to support you on your journey to optimal health and wellness.
